National Entitlement Card

Older and disabled people are able to travel free by bus anywhere in Scotland on local buses and long distance scheduled coaches throughout the day, including the morning rush hour. Young people aged 16-18 years will receive 1/3rd off the adult single fares on buses and a free Young Person's Railcard, giving you 1/3rd off train fares.

Any young person who uses their railcard to purchase season tickets - monthly, annual etc, will receive a 50% discount from 1st January 2009.

The scheme will be by application on the National Entitlement Card, which is intended to allow members of the public to use an increasing number of public services through a single card. The electronic card will help prevent fraud.

New Applicants

• Applicants will be asked to provide proof of their name, address, date of birth and telephone number
• They will then be asked to sign the form and confirm if the details are to be used to either process the application form for the Scotland-Wide Free Bus Scheme for Older and Disabled People or additionally to share personal details with those departments and agencies of this Council, other Scottish Councils and the Scottish Government that already hold this information.
• The benefit of sharing this information is to ensure that your personal details are correct wherever these bodies hold them. This will also allow the Council to identify and administer any other public services which you are eligible to receive. The Council will then not require to ask the applicant to fill out a form again to get additional applications on the card if you are entitled to receive those services.

To apply for the new Scotland Wide Scheme for Older and Disabled people and also for Young People between the ages of 16-18 they should contact us on 01259 450000 to arrange an appointment to have their photograph taken and to complete an application form.
