Chapter 1 - Caring for the Environment
Introduction

The Local Plan’s strategy promotes development opportunities so that the social and economic priorities of Clackmannanshire can be realised within the context of caring for the environment. Caring for the environment is an important and integral part of the European, UK and Scottish Parliament’s policies, as well as those of many of the Council’s partner agencies. Environmental quality is also vital in promoting Clackmannanshire as a prime location for business and tourism investment. To achieve this, the Local Plan has policies that seek not only to protect the area’s many environmental assets, but also to enhance them where it is possible to do so, in some cases through new development.

The policies in this chapter are designed to work together to meet four key objectives:
- Objective 1: Protecting & Enhancing the Natural Environment
- Objective 2: Protecting & Enhancing the Built Environment
- Objective 3: Managing the Countryside and the Urban Fringe
- Objective 4: Managing Minerals and Waste
