Fairfield School, a free standing school for secondary aged pupils with considerable additional support needs, is situated in the middle of the village of Sauchie, next to Alloa. It serves the whole of Clackmannanshire with all the pupils being bused or taxied into school.

Fairfield SchoolThe school, originally the village school, built in 1905, stands in its own grounds within a quiet residential street. It is a spacious stone structure having three large teaching rooms, several small teaching areas, laundry, medical room, and multi-sensory studio, all leading off from the large central hall. The Headteacher's office and staffroom are adjacent to the front foyer and the dining room, servery and kitchen are situated to the rear of the school.

A purpose built Sensory Garden and Youth Zone are located within the grounds. There are presently three teachers, a Headteacher, 7.6 Supervisory Assistants and a part-time Adminstrative Officer. The school is also visited and supported by the Sports Development Team who provide physical activities through lunch and after school clubs.

The building is shared with Parent and Children's Services Network, Inclusion Support Service and Visual and Hearing Support Service.

All of the young people in the school follow individualised educational programmes corresponding with the 5-14 guidelines delivered within the elaborated curriculum, and Higher Still at Access Level. There is a strong link with Alloa Academy where specialised subjects e.g. design and technology, science, are delivered by specialist teachers.

Links with the local college are well established with pupils undertaking a bridging course in their final years of school prior to moving on to continue their education in the college Access and Progression course.

The Speech & Language Therapist works closely with staff and pupils one day each week. An Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist support staff in planning movement programmes for selected pupils and consult closely with class teachers. A Music Therapist works with several pupils on one morning per week.

Enterprising approaches are embedded in the delivery of the curriculum.

The school works very closely with Psychological Services, Social Work and the many other agencies which support children and their families.

School meals are cooked in a primary school and are transported to Fairfield School. All of the young people are provided with a free school lunch.

Parents are very involved in the education of their children. Annual reviews, to which they contribute, are held in school and there are Parents' Evenings every school year. They are also welcome at any time to contact the school to discuss any concerns or issues.

The school has forged strong links over the years with Sauchie United Free Church.

Community links are well established with pupils using the local village shops, amenities and neighbouring college as well as those in the nearby town of Alloa. Members of the community encourage and support the school's Community Café and any events taking place throughout the session.
