Housing Support Team
If you are homeless and living in temporary accommodation or have your own tenancy and are at risk of becoming homeless, a referral can be made to the Housing Support Team.
Referrals can be made to the team by the Council's Homelessness Team and Income Control Team. Referrals can also be made by other professionals such as social workers and registered social landlords.
A referral can be made to the team on your behalf if you are having difficulty maintaining and/or setting up your tenancy.
The Housing Support Team will only accept a referral on your behalf if you have agreed that it can be made.
What sort of support will I be offered?
Support can be offered on a range of issues, specifically to help you manage your tenancy such as:
- Getting power supplies switched on and payment schemes set up
- Applying for Housing Benefit and supplying appropriate proof of your claim
- Working towards reducing rent arrears
- Accessing furniture
- Budgeting and managing debts
- Applying for the right benefits and grants
- Getting on with your neighbours
- Managing your front door
- Deal with official letters and fill in forms
- Establishing links in the local community
- Get in touch with other agencies who can help
How long will I receive support for?
The support you receive will last for a 3 month period initially.
After that, your support will be reviewed and an agreement will be reached on whether your support will be extended for a further period of time or if your case will be closed. This process will then be repeated on a regular basis until your case is closed.
We realise that everybody has individual needs which means that the support you are offered and the length of time that you receive that support, will be agreed with you, your Housing Support Officer and the Housing Support Co-ordinator.
