MEMBERS' NEWS
WEE COUNTY VAULTERS:
Senior Female Class
Wee County Vaulters were also represented in the World Championships Senior Female class by GB's top ranked vaulter Joanne Eccles. Once again Joanne competed on W H Bentley. Having achieved a personal best in the compulsory test Joanne progressed to the second round in seventh position. Only the top 15 of the 45 individual senior females from around the world qualified for the second round. Joanne then achieved personal best in the Technical test and then proceeded to enthral the audience with her freestyle (to the theme of "Lady in red") this saw her move up two places to finish in fifth position, the highest placing gained to date by a GB vaulter.
Sponsorship
Thanks must go to all the people who gave financial support to the Wee County Vaulters including Clackmannanshire Sports Council and Benstons Motor Engineers, whose generous contributions helped pay for the horse transportation costs to allow the club to compete at this prestigious competition.
A British Junior Club team takes on the best of Europe
The Junior Great Britain Equestrian Vaulting Team has recently returned in high spirits from the Vaulting World Championships and European Junior Vaulting Championships, held in Brno, Czech Republic, 27th Jul - 3rd Aug 2008
This is the first time, that a complete team from one club - Wee County Vaulters from Tillicoultry in Scotland - has been selected to represent Great Britain and was, exceptionally, all the more remarkable, because the team was only formed as a unit, earlier in March this year!
The team competed on the veteran campaigner and dear friend, W. H. Bentley (fondly known to all as Henry), who was lunged by owner and vastly experienced Coach, John Eccles (consistently and amusingly mispronounced "Ecckless," by the arena announcer!)
The horses, 'W. H. Bentley', 'Baroque' and 'Go for Gold', were road transported via Dover and Frankfurt in Wee County's upgraded horse lorry and were settled into their architecturally stunning Brno stables before the team arrived. The distance travelled was, 1,379.63 miles and was noted as part of the fund-raising events by the team. The horses' stabling accommodation was deemed to have been first class!
John's daughters, Joanne and Hannah, currently two of Great Britain's most successful individual vaulters, also assisted their father in coaching and preparing the team for the competition. W. H. Bentley achieved the supreme accolade with the highest 'horse score' in the Junior Team competition.
Andrew McLachlan was the only team member who had previously experienced the high pressure of competing outside Britain at this level. The Team's ages ranged from 11 to 16 years which made them the youngest and least experienced team competing in Brno.
The GB Junior Team were lying in 5th position after the compulsory tests, but the enormity of the occasion seemed to get the better of them in both the freestyle tests and they finished in 6th place overall, ahead of 5 other International teams who had had previous International experience and trained in their teams for some years. This was a fantastic achievement. They greatly exceeded their own expectations and meant the Team was included in the medal ceremony - a very proud moment for them all.
The whole team agreed, that their first experience of competing abroad had been a hugely wonderful and emotional learning curve, full of high points including: experiencing the company and comradeship of vaulters from all around the world; performing in front of knowledgeable and enthusiastic spectators (including the bright lights of the dreaded TV cameras); competing in a world-class environment and arena; spending time with the other members of Team GB. All this, whilst keeping up with their fitness, training and the competing schedules of the competition.
The GB Junior Team extend their collective sincerest thanks, to all those special supporters, their parents and extended families, but in particular, to Mr. Fraser Gillespie of Benstons Motor Engineers in Johnstone, Renfrewshire and Clackmannanshire Sports Council, who gave crucial financial support to the Wee County Vaulters, whose generous contributions helped enable the vital horse transportation allowing the club to compete at these European Championships.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GB JUNIOR TEAM AND THE WEE COUNTY VAULTERS.

British Equestrian Vaulting Championships - Ecclesmachan - 4th/5th October 2008
The British and Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Championships were held last weekend. The competition which attracted clubs from throughout Great Britain took place at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre, Ecclesmachan.
Joanne and Hannah Eccles from the Wee County Vaulters retained their pairs' championship title for a record 6th year in succession. Both girls also won Individual championship titles with Joanne (Clackmannanshire's Senior Sports Personality 2007) taking the Senior Individual title for the 4th time and Hannah winning the inaugural 14 - 18 Junior Individual Title. Both girls competed on W.H. Bentley, lunged by John Eccles.
The Wee County Vaulters' Intermediate Team vaulting on Baroque won the Intermediate Championship class. The team which earlier in the summer represented G.B. at the European Equestrian Junior Vaulting Championships consisted of Yasmin Williamson, Joscelin Craig, Andrew McLachlan, Helen Anderson, Brogan Moffat, Rebecca Norval and Cassie McIlwraith. Brogan and Cassie also competed in individual vaulting advanced classes for the first time and put in very creditable performances on the club's novice horse Tylers Kernal.
In the strongly contested Pre-novice class the Wee County Team of Becky Stevens, Pamela Elder, Amy Gullen, Leigh Taylor, Victoria Campbell and Olivia Mears were placed 4th. Pamela and Becky were placed 1st and 2nd in the over 14 walk class with Victoria taking 3rd place in the 9 - 12 class.
The Intermediate team along with Hannah Young finished off a very successful competition by winning the open walk team class with their rendition of Fame. The club vaulters having had a hugely successful season now have a break from competition however planning and training are already underway for next season.
