Disability Equality Scheme
How we will meet the Specific Duties
The Council has assessed its public services for impact on disability equality and has drawn up an action plan for the next three years. It has done this by:
- Establishing a steering group of service representatives with the remit of compiling and prioritising all Council procedures and policies in terms of disability equality
- Services which were allocated top priority in terms of their relevance to all or part of the general duty and for which there was evidence that people with disabilities could be differently affected, will be addressed in year one reporting in January 2008
- Services, which are allocated medium term priority, will be addressed in year two of the Disability Equality Scheme, reporting in January 2009
- Low priority functions will be addressed in year three, reporting in January 2010
- The Council's performance will be subject to a National Enforcement Regime.
