  • Just over three quarters of all residents (76%) said they were satisfied with Clackmannanshire as a place to live; this equivalent figure in the regeneration areas was 65%

For example, over a quarter (29%) feel it is a better place to live while 35% feel it is now worse in comparison to five years ago. A further 27% feel there has been no real change
  • There is a more positive outlook from respondents when asked to consider what Clackmannanshire may be like five years from now. Conversely, only 22% feel it will be worse in five years
  • A high proportion of residents agreed that Clackmannanshire has a convenient location in the centre of Scotland (89%) and that it has an outstanding natural environment (70%)

The Local Neighbourhood

  • Attitudes to the local neighbourhood as a place to live are very positive, with 86% of all respondents feeling their local neighbourhood is a good place to live
  • Residents were asked to indicate what they particularly disliked about their local neighbourhood and the most significant factor to emerge, quoted by 69% of all residents, was the problem of young people hanging around or there being nothing for young people to do
  • Residents were also asked what they particularly liked about their neighbourhood and the most significant factor was good neighbours (69%), good air quality (64%), friendly people (63%) and good outlook/view (63%)
  • In the regeneration areas, a higher proportion of residents disliked their neighbourhood because of drug abuse and dealing (55% compared to only 27% in the rest of Clackmannanshire), vandalism and graffiti (57% compared to only 35% elsewhere) and because of crime (51% compared to 28% elsewhere)

Community Planning Priorities

  • Virtually all respondents (90%) stated that it was very important to tackle crime or the fear of crime
  • This was closely followed by a need to develop children and young people (82% stated this was very important), getting people back to work (74%), involving and engaging young people (73%) and promoting health and wellbeing (71%)
  • For each of these issues, respondents were asked to state how satisfied they were with how they were being tackled in Clackmannanshire. The highest level of satisfaction was recorded for encouraging people to be more environmentally friendly (52% satisfied), improving transport (41% satisfied) and improving housing (38% satisfied)
  • Levels of dissatisfaction are also relatively high for a number of service areas, particularly focusing on tackling crime or the fear of crime (44% dissatisfied), involving and engaging young people (33% dissatisfied) and getting people back to work (32% dissatisfied)

  • Across Clackmannanshire as a whole, just over a third of all residents (35%) said that a fear of crime had no or only a minor effect on there quality of life. However, a further 34% stated it had a moderate effect while 30% said it had a major effect on their lives
  • Only 9% of residents in the rest of Clackmannanshire do not feel safe at home, in comparison to 26% of those in regeneration areas.
  • Almost three quarters of all those in regeneration areas (73%) said they do not feel safe walking in their neighbourhood after dark in comparison to 50% of those in the rest of Clackmannanshire.
